Don’t Give Up, God is Standing With You

And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

– Matthew 28:20 NKJV

Recently I did a cover on YouTube of the song “I’m Standing With You” by Chrissy Metz. It was on the soundtrack for the movie “Breakthrough”. The lyrics of the song are very beautiful and powerful. I always thought of it from the perspective of me singing the song to a loved one. But today as I was singing that song this morning it was like God was singing that song to me.

It hit me especially hard when the lyrics say, “And when you think that all the odds are all against you, and you just feel like giving up well I won’t let you.” God made it perfectly clear that He is still with me and He is still with you too. Even when we don’t deserve it, God is still with us. Even when we sabotage our own blessings God is still there to help us.

So if you feel disqualified and are thinking about giving up on the assignments that God has called you to then this message is for you. God doesn’t want you to give up, He wants you to keep going and take heart in knowing that He is standing with you.

Blessed Is The Man Who Endures

Blessed is the man who endures temptation – James 1:12 NKJV

Last month I wrote about letting go of worthless things. But the truth is it is easier to say than to do or stay consistent with. Our spirit always wants to do right, but our flesh can really put up a fight when it wants to. Sometimes you’re good for a few days and then the next day the urge to sin is almost unbearable.

This is why we have to be vigilant. Whenever thoughts to give into temptation begin to arise, remember that blessed is the man who endures temptation. To endure means to last and persist. In order to endure temptation we have to feed our spirit more than our flesh. We have to stay connected to God through prayer and His written word. Ephesians 6: 17 says the word of God is the sword of the Spirit. So let’s pick up our swords and persist past our temptations.

Letting Go of Worthless Things

Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, And revive me in Your way.

Psalm 119:37 NKJV

In my previous post I talked about revival and what the word revive really means. Revival is a great thing to desire and ask God and the Holy Spirit for, but from reading the scriptures I noticed something that can hinder our own personal revival. In fact it is our constant consumption of worthless things that keeps God from reviving us in His way.

The truth is it is so easy to become distracted and even addicted to worthless things. Some of the things we consume are sinful, and others are simply just not beneficial. So if you have been seeking a spiritual refreshing but haven’t seen much change, then I suggest that you evaluate what are the worthless things in your life that might be a hinderance to you and your relationship with the Lord.

Right now it is Spring Cleaning season, however it it also the season of renewal and nature around us is coming back to life. There is a correlation between pruning the dead things in our lives and embracing the new. Now is the time to decide what is worth keeping and what should be thrown away. I pray that you decide to let go of some worthless things today because sweet revival is on the way!

To everything there is a season. A time to keep and a time to throw away.

– Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 6 NKJV

Revive Me O Lord

Revive me, O Lord according to Your lovingkindness

– Psalm 119: 159 NKJV

It’s the beginning of Spring and we’re starting to see the April showers. The refreshing water and warmer weather breathes life into the dry lands that were affected by the harsh Winter. As humans sometimes we go through dry patches in our life where we need something as refreshing as a cool glass of water or as warm as the rays from the Sun to breathe new life into us. But truth be told the greatest refreshing that you can ever receive is from the Lord.

The word “revive” is used a lot in scripture, especially in the book of Psalm. Revive means restore to life. Synonyms for revive are refresh, energize, strengthen, and renew. So are you in need of a revival? Have you grown weary and need a touch from the Lord to strengthen you and give you new energy?

If you answered yes then know that revival starts with getting in the presence of God and reading His word. In your prayers say “Revive Me O Lord.” Sometimes God might call you to a fast or a personal retreat just so you can disconnect from the noise of the world and get refreshed by Him. Get new instruction, strategy, and creative ideas from Him. May the Lord drop a sweet revival onto you!

All of My Help Comes From the Lord

My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:2 NKJV

Recently I heard my little cousin sing a beautiful song for her church Choir Day titled “My Help (Cometh From The Lord)” by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. I heard it for the first time that day and the song totally touched my soul. I could tell that song had to have come straight from the scriptures and it did. It came from Psalm 121, which is titled “God the Help of Those Who Seek Him”.

As we continue to live we will eventually run into situations where we have exhausted all of our natural resources and have reached the end of our own natural ability to accomplish a task. It is then that we see God’s mighty strength shine the most.

So if you know that you’re doing all that you can do and you need divine intervention then it’s time for you to seek God today. Stay in a constant posture of seeking Him. Be honest with Him about what areas you desire help in. God delights in helping His children. God has given all of us assignments on earth and He wants nothing more than to help us in completing those assignments and completing our race. From the beginning of time we were created to do life with God so seek God today.

The Answer Is In The Word

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope ” -Romans 15:4 NKJV

Have you ever come across a problem that you just couldn’t solve yourself? When faced with that predicament who/where do you turn for answers? Now more than ever we have so much access to information and opinions. Today’s facts can change tomorrow and opinions are not a firm ground to stand on, but the Word of God is a firm foundation.

Let the Bible be your first source to learn from and get hope from. The Bible is a gift to us. It would be foolish to not open such a precious gift. Read it when you’re down it will give you hope. Read it when you’re mad it will calm you down and help you to reason. Study it to learn more about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we desire for God to speak audibly to us, but He doesn’t do that much because the answers are in the Word.

Give God’s Way A Chance

A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.”

– Proverbs 16:9 NKJV

Have you ever happily stepped out on faith only to later start having doubts and thinking of your own plan B, C, and D? Every thing is exciting in the beginning, but then all of a sudden things start getting REAL really quick. We could have literally stepped out on faith for something on January 1st only to start freaking out by January 7th and thinking of another way to do what God said that makes sense to us.

I’m sure many of us have been there before, and one day when I was freaking out a small still voice said to me “You haven’t even given God’s way a chance.” And it made me pause because it was true. It reminded me of the movie Fire Proof when the main character was doing a Love Dare to win his wife back. He was impatient and half way following the instructions of the dare, and was wondering why it wasn’t working. The man’s wise father told him to give the Love Dare a chance for real and actually finish it and see it through. To put his all into it withholding nothing.

So today I want to give that message to you, to give God’s way a fair chance. Don’t be so quick to throw in the towel. Continue to persevere. Our God works in mysterious ways. We may not always know the how’s and the when’s, but we can rest in knowing that God is faithful to fulfill His promises to us in due time.

Joy Over Burden

For he will not dwell unduly on the days of his life, because God keeps him busy with the joy of his heart -Ecclesiastes 5:20 NKJV

This verse represents what many of us want out of our lives. We want a life of fulfillment. We desire to love the work that we do. That’s why we switch majors, jobs, and career paths for a chance to spend our days working on the things that we’re truly passionate about. How great would it be for God to keep us busy with the joys of our hearts? That would be pretty awesome. Right?!

However in life the very things that once brought us joy can bring us burdens. It’s up to us to get the right perspective back. A perspective of JOY. A perspective of GRATEFULNESS. If you go the burden route you’re gonna burn out real quick. And you’re really missing out on seeing all the good that God is doing in your life each and everyday. So make whatever you’re doing fun again. Lighten up. Give the burdens to God while you keep your joy.

Reverential Fear of God

Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments” – Psalm 112: 1 NKJV

Have you ever struggled with a stronghold that was hard to shake? Even if you’ve been delivered from that stronghold sometimes it will come back up to be that annoying thorn in your side. Last night I was tempted to go back to my personal sin of choice. The urge to watch what I shouldn’t watch and do what I shouldn’t do was so strong! But somehow I passed the test and I wanted to share what I learned with you.

Contrary to popular belief I didn’t stop in my pursuit to sin because of a sudden lack of desire, but rather a sudden presence of reverential fear and respect for the Lord. Below are three steps that enabled me to have victory over my flesh and ultimately saved me from getting caught up in old cycles.

3 Things to do When You’re Tempted to Sin:

  1. Pray (Call out to God and Jesus)

Whenever you feel your flesh starting to act up the first thing you should do is pray. Everything starts with a thought. When you notice that your thoughts are turning godly then it’s time to combat those thoughts with prayer. Pray in your mind and pray out-loud. Literally call on the name of JESUS. Be honest with God and call out whatever sin is tempting you. Expose it! There’s no need to hide what you’re feeling from the Lord because He already knows and He wants to help you.

2. Read The Word of God (Pick up your Bible)

Often times we stop at step one and then wonder how our prayer for help quickly turned to a prayer for forgiveness. It’s funny how our flesh can make us start to reason with anything. Next thing you know you’re thinking “Hey I can do this and ask God for forgiveness later.” This is why it’s important to read the word of God in your moments of weakness too. Ephesians 6: 17 NIV says “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

As you’re battling your flesh you’re gonna need the sword of the Spirit aka the word of God to help you succeed. It’s the best medicine to sober you up whenever your judgement is clouded. It will convict you when you’re wrong and encourage you to live right at the same time.

3. Step Away (Flee Tempting Situations)

After you’ve sought spiritual strength and guidance then it’s time for you to physically step away from whatever is tempting you. Step away from the phone, TV, that person, the bottle, the drugs, etc. Go to a different room, take a cold shower, listen to worship music, or even sleep it off. Do whatever it takes to keep from making provision for your flesh.

In mercy and truth atonement is provided for iniquity; and by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil” – Proverbs 16:6 NKJV

We all have fallen short of the glory of God. Still work to get rid of any toxic cycles in your life. When you fall repent, get back up, and do better next time. Remember to be more proactive than reactive when it comes to avoiding sin. We have everything we need though Jesus Christ to live a life of victory.

Finding Yourself For Your Delight and Others

One day I was randomly watching an I Love Lucy documentary when one of the women talking about Lucy said, “Much to her delight and ours, she finds herself.” That’s a really powerful thought and it made me think of why it’s so important that we discover who we really are.

We should find out what our gifts are both naturally and spiritually (Romans 12:6-8). We should seek to learn God’s plan and perfect will for our life. Just keep asking, seeking, and knocking (Matthew 7:7-12). Knowing who you are and your specific calling will bring you so much delight and it will be a delight to others. Sometimes we are reluctant to fully be bold in who our Father has called us to be because we’re afraid of the backlash or disapproval of others. Today I encourage you to be bold and free in your calling for your delight, the delight of others, and most of all God’s glory!

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” – Matthew 5:16 NKJV
