The Lord Goes Before Me

“And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice” – John 10:18

A couple days ago I heard a new song. The song is titled “Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone)” by People and Songs. I didn’t search for this song but God made sure that this song found me. The lyrics of this song is rich with truth. The song begins with, “The Lord is my shepherd. He goes before me. Defender behind me. I won’t fear.” Wow! It truly is comforting to know that the Lord goes before us. God might be calling you to step into new territory this season. Sometimes the thought of starting something new or leaving some things behind can make us anxious. Through His word and through this song God is confirming that WE ARE NOT ALONE.

God knows your next move and He has been going before you and making provision for you. He is removing the wrong people from your life and setting you up to connect with the right people. He sees the future while you can only see what’s now. The thing that will help you the most this season and life in general is knowing His voice. Do you know his voice well or are you listening to the voice of a stranger?

The Lord is a good shepherd. Jesus is a good shepherd. The Lord and Jesus are one (John 10:30), and they will never let a single sheep be snatched from their hand (John 10:28-29). We need only to do our part to be good sheep. That means being more intimate with the Lord. Reading His word, praying, and seeking His face daily. Then you can know His voice, follow His path, and rest assured knowing that He has gone before you and He has your back as well.

Enjoy Today: Having Joy in The Day to Day

“This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24

Last week I wrote ‘Enjoy Today” on my dry-erase board at work. The Holy Spirit dropped it on my heart and it helped me all through the week. You see I actually started my work week off on the wrong foot. My work week started off with an attitude and discontentment. But as children of God we shouldn’t stay that way long.

I realized that I was low on gratefulness and that made me complain about things that I shouldn’t be bothered about. Don’t fall into the trap of complaining. Get your gratefulness tank back on full. You can’t have joy without gratefulness. They go hand in hand. One way to enjoy today is to be grateful that God made today. Each new day holds new opportunities, adventures, and blessings. Start each day off with scripture and prayer so you can have the right perspective. Praise God for a new day and another chance!

In my quiet time I was reading a book
I heard it was full of wisdom so I decided to take a look
I didn’t know where to start so I opened a random page
It was Psalm 139 that greeted me
As I read I felt the words come to life
That was a day that would forever change my life
As time went on I would read some more
Thirsty for knowledge I kept coming back for more
But one day I read something I didn’t mean to read
I saw something that didn’t agree with me
Torn between my views and the book I love so much
It’s calling for a lifestyle change that is hard to give up
So with this book on my lap I pause to think
Do I skip the page or change what I believe

Don’t Lose Heart: Be of Good Courage

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” – Psalm 27:13-14

So you had a rough morning. You might have had a tough night, month, or year. No matter what do not lose heart. God has plans and assignments for you. In order to do what God has called you to do you cannot lost heart. In order to remain effective you have to stay encouraged. Be encouraged in the Lord today. The spirit of defeat, depression, or inferiority does not belong to you. Any negative thoughts of self-pity are not worth your time. Instead this scripture tells us to be of good courage.

One definition of good courage from Biblehub.com is to literally radiate warm confidence. Another definition is living out the inner confidence that is Spirit-produced. These are amazing definitions that we should really consider. What allows us to radiate and live out our life with inner confidence? The answer is found in the verse. David said, “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” We can be confident because we know our God is good! We can be confident because we know our Lord is faithful! When you heart is vulnerable the Lord will strengthen your heart. Stay connected with Him and be of good courage.

Birthing Season: Birth What You Can

The Importance of Fellowship with Other Believers

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching” – Hebrews 10:25

Have you ever taken a long break from going to the church on Sundays? Sometimes certain circumstances in our life can make us want to retreat to isolation. Today I went to Sunday School after being MIA for several Sundays. After I got there I realized how much I missed it. I missed my teachers and the other students in class more than I thought I would. Even if you think you know all the Word and going to church won’t help you learn anything new; theres nothing like fellowshipping with other believers.

Don’t take the opportunity to fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ for granted. It’s nice to have people that you can pray with, study the bible with, and praise God and Jesus with. It’s healthy to have spiritual conversations with likeminded people who love the Lord like you do. You can gain a lot from listening to what God is doing in the lives of those around you. Through their testimonies you can hear stories of healing, miracles, and restoration.

This week make an effort to fellowship with other people in the household of faith. You can connect with other believers through Sunday morning service, Sunday School, Bible Study, your family, or a group of your friends. Build new relationships and make a habit of encouraging others in the body of Christ. If you don’t have a church family or people to talk about your faith with then mention that to God in prayer. I know from experience that God will align you with the right people in due time.

Birthing Season: Birth What You Can

Today as we step into a new month birthing season is here. Even before it became a new month I could tell that there is a new season upon us. This is a season where many people are becoming more focused on their purpose and assignments. A season to intentionally protect our time from idleness. This month is a time to fully concentrate on the projects God has given each and every one of us.

The number 8 symbolizes new beginnings so the eighth month of the year is extra special. God is giving new ideas and revamping old ones. You have probably heard many sermons saying that it is your ‘birthing season”, but sometimes we get it mixed up.  We tend to automatically think that we are going to be birthing the big ideas in our head.  There will be a time when you can delight in the manifestation of those extraordinary ideas, but in the meantime don’t get disappointed because things aren’t as grand as you hoped they would be. Birth what you can right now!

This month get your excitement back! No longer put yourself down because you think you should be further along. Everyday God is speaking to us and He knows how to meet us where we are. God knows what we can handle in any given season. You can birth something right now. God is all about development and perfect timing. You might want to birth a restaurant, but right now God is telling you to pursue a food truck. You might want to birth a full album, but currently God is telling you to work on an amazing demo, single or EP. Your dream might be to do something internationally, but God is telling you that you have more work to do locally. I don’t what God is telling you to do right now, but I know He is telling you to do something.

Be resourceful. Make the most of what you have and birth what you can. You simply have to start, be consistent, and obey. You may think that the things/ideas that you are birthing now are too small and insignificant but they are not. The steps you are making right now are leading you to something greater. Stay encouraged, inspired, and birth what you can. 🙂
